National and National Junior Honor Societies
Students who show academic excellence and a commitment to service are eligible to join the National Junior Honor Society (grade 7-9) and National Honor Society (grades 10 – 12) each year. In particular a student must:
Invitations are distributed at the end of each semester in which a student qualifies.
An induction ceremony takes place in late May for students who complete the Honor Society requirements. Students will need to pay a $10 induction fee.
The Honor Society and Community Service Office is overseen by Yvette Velez, YVelez@schools.nyc.gov
- Achieve a minimum 85% GPA overall in a given semester.
- Complete the service requirement of ten (10) hours of approved community service activities by the first week in May.
- Have satisfactory conduct in all subjects and during any community service activities in keeping with the “service, leadership and character” motto.
- Be recommended by a faculty member.

Principal's List
Each marking period, students who have earned an academic average of 90% or better, and who have not failed any classes, will be named to the Principal’s List. There are no community service requirements in order to qualify.
